sartoriography: n, from the Greek,
*the art of photographing the topography of one’s sartorial landscape
*the study of the visual representations of one’s internal geography
*a sarcastic approach to fashion, photography, and the world of the visual/graphic/aesthetic
*a melding of words that equals a pretentious way of saying, “I think clothes are fun and I want to take pictures of them!”
sartoriography is a blog dedicated to the fun that is fashion. It makes no bones about its shallow subject matter or its irreverent attitude toward those who think that fashion is life. Instead, it presupposes the mental quiet and subtle joy inspired by just the right combination of pieces, the snug fit of a pencil skirt, or a steal on a vintage necklace. It assumes a broad and ever-expanding definition of the term “fashion” and glories as much in the everyday as the avant garde, quirky, and truly sensational. It is meant to record for posterity but mostly procrastination the funky, creative, inspired, and/or misdirected sartorial choices of this Chicago author and her friends, classmates, fellow urbanites, and random encounters.
On a less shallow note, sartoriography is devoted to highlighting the talent and creativity of artists of all kinds- visual, musical, physical and, of course!, sartorial. This blog is meant to draw the eye and the heart to the dedicated work that is artistic expression and to inspire readers or accidental passersby to try out their own version of the noble pursuit of Oscar Wilde’s “perfection.”

Because your blog is subtitled “an intellectual’s thought on fashion,” I though you might like Threadbared (http://threadbared.blogspot.com), a collaborative academic blog on the politics of fashion and beauty (disclaimer: I am one half of Threadbared)!
