Non-Narrative but Non-Quitter: Outfits #10, #11, and #12 of 30

November 28, 2010

*SIGH*  I am tired, people!  It has been a wonderful and long long weekend (the double long is intentional) and I’m happily sated, thanks to visiting friends and tons of food.  My energy level is at about nil, though, and it’s already back to the grind.  Finals are in a week and a half and I have a total of 175 pages to write and two exams for which to prepare, so time is limited.   I’m hoping my brain can still function despite the ~432 lbs of dressing (stuffing for you non-Southerners), cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie wreaking havoc on my system.

In the interest of actually getting some outfits posted but not deviating from my “It’s Go Time!” game plan, here is a non-narrative and rather boring post about some long-past 30 for 30 outfits.  That’s right, I haven’t quit.  I’m just slow to post these days.  Bear with me!

OUTFIT 10: For overseeing a major quarterly meeting of a workshop I run.  This is possibly my most favorite dress ever.  Also, these boots replaced a 30 for 30 pair that sustained a broken zipper.  Lame (the broken zipper, not these boots, which are awesome).

Non-Narrative but Non-Quitter: Correspondence Dress (thrifted, $3), grey cardigan (H&M, $12), tights (Betsy Johnson, $6), boots (random online place, $25), belt (thrifted, $3), necklace (Charlotte Russe, $8).

OUTFIT 11: For class, class and…class.  That’s just about all I do.  Also, I had a date with some books.  They appreciated this semi-French get-up.  Also, I’m obsessed with this hat.  And this ring scarf, which was a gift from the lovely and talented Lara Miller.

Black dress (Old Navy via thrift, $7), striped tee (gift), ring scarf (c/o designer Lara Miller), tights (American Apparel, $10), boots (Target, $30), hat (men's neck scarf, H&M, $12).

OUTFIT 12: For hanging with the Baby C, which entails crawling on the floor, eating messy foods and generally being a big kid.  That means nothing too fancy.  Does a fur count as too fancy?  I think not!

Black jeans (thrifted, $3), black top (H&M, $10), black cardigan (H&M, $22), boots (Target, $15), necklace (Charlotte Russe, $10), fur (vintage, thrifted, $2).

Good luck getting through the next few weeks. That sounds killer, and I’m glad to be past that stage of life. I love each of these looks for various reasons, but the second is so amazing I may have to straight up rip it off this week!

I’d be honored if you do! It’s so fun to share ideas/styles with other people. Yay, blogs!!

My only complaint about my Thanksgiving was that the dressing was stuffing from a box. If only I had known that was the plan for the dressing, I would have intervened. *sigh*

I think you should give me your correspondence dress. Please.

I wish you the best of luck and lots of flowing prose over the next couple of weeks. I remember those days only too well, and wish I could say that life on the other side is less writing – but it’s really not. Between lectures, talks, and an article draft, I’ve written hundreds of pages this semester….

That is a CRIME! If I’d known you were having dressing from a box I’d have come to your house and made you some of mine. I cry. I cry tears of Southern pain!

PS- Re: the Correspondence Dress…perhaps we should do a temporary trade?

Where do you find all time and strength to keep this up? All the outfits are great, the ring scarf is perfect with outfit #2.
I know how much you love the hats too….

You’re SO FRENCH! I lived in Paris for two years, so I can say that with authority. All these outfits are great, but the middle one is my favorite. I love that hat and scarf.

Can I just have outfit #11? Great, thanks. I am also completely swamped by grad school junk. Crazy that they want me to finish my thesis in order to graduate, right? What jerks.

Also, I feel that I also end up screaming at my outfits sometimes. They usually listen, but then rebel later by being extra bunchy and call me a bully.

i love all of these outfits, but especially the 1st one! i love that the dress has such a large print. and for some reason i like when prints are of random objects (rather than dots or animals or whatever). it is more unique. ~joelle

I feel the same! Most prints drive me nuts because they seem so contrived, but I love how this one just sort of…happens.

Oh my goodness, I’m in love with your correspondence dress! Probably one of my favorites of yours, too! I love little themed patterns like that.

Good luck with everything you have to do soon! :)

Loving that dress….I am so still full from Thanksgiving…ugh!

  14. November 29, 2010 10:52 pm

I was always confused why they call it dressing in the South, but we call it stuffing. Ah well. Life’s little mysteries…
It is nice to see you back. But it sounds like you are already more than a little overwhelmed again. Best of luck with all your work.
These are all great looks, but #11 is my favorite. I can’t pinpoint why, but I love it.
Can’t wait to have you back for good – I always love seeing your comments pop up in my inbox.

I like the snake necklace in the first outfit and the boots in the second. Best of luck on getting all of this done before your deadline.

The snake necklace is the tops! Very sorceress, very mysterious…I love. xoxoxo

I love that you wore that dress with a snake necklace. It looks so evil and cool. And that fur is so great!
