Study Abroad: Austin, TX

September 18, 2010

As I’ve mentioned, I recently went to Texas to visit my brother.  While I was there we took a day trip to Austin.  From my brief time in the city of boots, bar-b-que and brilliant folk (lots of people w PhD’s there!) I have to say that I was super impressed.  It very much seems like my kind of place- laid back, visually intriguing, a little bit hippie’d out.  The vintage/thrift scene alone is enough to make me consider moving there.

During our lightening speed tour of Austin we spent most of our afternoon on South Congress Avenue, where I bought some great vintage pieces, ate awesome Tex-Mex, and obsessively people watched like a total creepster.  During said eating, buying, and staring I opted for the same color palate as the day before- blue and white with caramel accessories.  Apparently this is my attempt at being Texan.  Given the number of compliments I got on my boots, I’m feeling pretty successful.  :)

My Attempt at Texan: dress (Anthropologie, $20), belt (vintage, my dad's from the 70's), short cowboy boots (random SC shoe store).

Possibly the best stocked vintage store I've ever had the pleasure of pillaging.

I loved this mural and so asked my brother to photograph me posing with it.

Only, said goofy pose caused me to stumble, twist my ankle, and feel momentary but extreme pain. Here is how I look during said experience.

I'm like a child in the car on the way home- playing dress up, taking photos, generally being annoying. :)

I really like the pattern of your dress, and how you styled it. Awesome finding a spot that complements it well.

Mine, too! I love that we barely talked at all about blogging. We tackled love, relationships, religion, parents… I hope we left something for next time! :) Seriously, any time you want to hang out again let me/us know.
