Study Abroad: Austin, TX
As I’ve mentioned, I recently went to Texas to visit my brother. While I was there we took a day trip to Austin. From my brief time in the city of boots, bar-b-que and brilliant folk (lots of people w PhD’s there!) I have to say that I was super impressed. It very much seems like my kind of place- laid back, visually intriguing, a little bit hippie’d out. The vintage/thrift scene alone is enough to make me consider moving there.
During our lightening speed tour of Austin we spent most of our afternoon on South Congress Avenue, where I bought some great vintage pieces, ate awesome Tex-Mex, and obsessively people watched like a total creepster. During said eating, buying, and staring I opted for the same color palate as the day before- blue and white with caramel accessories. Apparently this is my attempt at being Texan. Given the number of compliments I got on my boots, I’m feeling pretty successful. :)

My Attempt at Texan: dress (Anthropologie, $20), belt (vintage, my dad's from the 70's), short cowboy boots (random SC shoe store).

I loved this mural and so asked my brother to photograph me posing with it. I decided a goofy pose was fun.

Oh my goodness—-$20?! I know I saw that dress on sale at my Anthro, but not for that price! Awesome
. Love the look.
Awwww. I lived in Austin for a year, so this makes me miss it. I’d say your look is spot on. The boots are adorable!
Hey, those boots look JUST LIKE a pair I have in my closet! Oh, wait, that’s because you bought them for me. Had I not known otherwise, I totally would have pegged you for a Texan…
) That was a great outfit! I really wish I could have gone, looks like you guys had a lot of fun…
That’s it. I’m going to Austin!
Looks like a fun time and AMAZING shopping. that boot wall alone would have made me pass out!
Ah, I love and miss Austin so much, it’s one of my favorite cities. Love Guero’s too! Perfect ensemble for spending the day in TX’s capitol!
I really like the pattern of your dress, and how you styled it. Awesome finding a spot that complements it well.
Great photos! I would love to visit Austin someday.
LOVE the dress. You look fantastic and very sexy! Also love the pictures and I want to go to Austin now A LOT. Also, I know that look of pain, when you’ve done something painful but very funny. LOL
i generally do not like texas much, but i will forget all of that to hit that vintage store!!!! i want ALL of those boots! is that the store you got the ones you were wearing on saturday??
It is. I’m really obsessed and love that we have the same pair and wore them on the same day.
You are just the cutest!!!! However, reading this post makes me miss Austin an INSANE amount! I need TexMex food pronto! Had so much fun with you and Clare and Lisa on Saturday, I can’t wait to hang out again, the conversation was my favorite part
Mine, too! I love that we barely talked at all about blogging. We tackled love, relationships, religion, parents… I hope we left something for next time!
Seriously, any time you want to hang out again let me/us know.
Next time, I’m going with you.
Nice photos! I really enjoyed these. And your gooberosity.
rad photos, cute brother, yummy looking food, great vintage (eeeep!)…my invitation must’ve been lost in the mail. hmmmm.
I love these damn pictures, and I can’t wait to take my own trip to the oasis of the lone star state. Though I don’t know if my pained faces will ever rival yours…
great photos….love the dress with those boots!!
Missed this post earlier probably because I’ve been sick and away from everything that doesn’t pay me. Glad you had fun in Austin and you definitely had the look down.
ohmygod I LOVE Austin sooooo much! John and I went there for our honeymoon and have every intention of going back someday. We lived at Waterloo Records and Gueros!
